Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
Christ set us free so that we could live free! At Calvary, He destroyed the shackles of slavery and the chains of darkness.
In today’s verse, Paul strongly urged the Galatian believers to stand up for liberty. False teachers had infiltrated the early church and were luring susceptible believers back under the letter of the Law, heaping on requirements for salvation that Jesus never intended. Paul warned that if they attempted to be justified by the Law, they had fallen from grace. Christ had profited them nothing.
Those strong words should be a warning – and a comfort – to us. Only faith in Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary are sufficient for our salvation. The only way to the Father is through Jesus Whom He sent to be the sacrifice for our sins. No one can even approach God unless they come through the blood of His Son (John 14:6).
His grace is more than enough. We can do nothing to cause Him to love us any less, and we can do nothing to cause Him to love us more than He already does. Salvation does not rest in us; it is a free gift that He offers to whomever will accept and receive Him. The world did not give it to us, and the world cannot take it away!
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Through Jesus, you are free indeed! Stand fast in the liberty that Christ purchased for you.
