When it comes to solving a problem, until you identify the source, all you are doing is investing effort without receiving any real results. While border control is a very hot topic in our nation today, I think we often look at it as a political problem, as a left versus right problem, but we fail to identify it at the source. Border control is about righteousness versus unrighteousness. It is light versus darkness and the truth against a lie.
God has given us a book of borders. As long as we live within His defined borders, we receive His blessings. The moment we cross the line, we begin to struggle. And right now we can certainly see America and the nations of the world struggling, because we have brazenly (and repeatedly) crossed the borders that God has clearly set for us as servants of the Most High God.
God isn’t sitting in Heaven, waiting on a new politically-motivated policy to be written. He’s waiting for His Blood-bought children to take a stand. He’s waiting for the redeemed of the Lord to say so! 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
My prayer for this nation is that we find a balance on border control... that we go back to the Bible. We need to return to being the kind of people that are governed by God’s borders that were established before time began. We need to begin with what the Scripture tells us in John 10:9-10. ”I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Like most things, we have made border control much more complicated than it should be. Over the years our perspective has changed, and we no longer consider borders to be blessings. Now borders are considered burdens. We are so bent on finding our ultimate freedom that we go our own way, crossing every line, every border that God has created for our well-being. We have forgotten that true freedom comes only through Christ.
Borders are a blessing. We serve a God of order, not chaos. The way you maintain order is through borders. The world that we live in was completely framed by God, the Master Creator. And what has man done with this fabulous creation? We are currently living in a frenzied state of chaos because we continually push our limits; we continually cross the borders established by Almighty God. When we cross the borders, we forfeit the blessing and chaos ensues.
Think about this for a second. The sun doesn’t shine when it wants to. The sun shines when God created it to. He calls the stars by name, and they shine at His command. The ebb of the ocean tide is on a rhythm set by God. The fish in the sea and the birds in the air...all were created by God and exist as He commanded.
As long as we live within the borders in which we were created to reside, we are blessed. A fish out of water is not blessed with the freedom of air. It dies.
So, think about John 10:9-10 for a minute. God is talking about being the door. What is a door? It’s a border. There are two sides. In the most literal sense, think of it this way. You are living a life of sin, seeking pleasure in the things of this world. You are seeking a fleeting sense of freedom.
You find the door. Someone tells you about Jesus Christ and you accept Him as your Lord and Savior. You walk through the door to the other side. You are saved. You are redeemed. You are truly set free!
And then your old friends start to call you again and you want to go back and party with them...and you’re looking at the door. Do I let the party crowd drag me back in? Do I cross that border back into my old life, or do I make a choice to live within the borders that Christ has set for me?
Friends, I will tell you this from experience. There is no greater freedom that you will find anywhere on the face of this earth than the freedom found through living the joyful Christian life within the borders set by Almighty God!
