Don’t wait for tragedy to strike. Put God in His proper place…above everything and everyone. When your eyes and heart are focused on Him, everything else will fall into place. The steps of the righteous are ordered of the LORD (Psalm 37:23). And His favor is for life (Psalm 30:5). Are you willing to miss out on blessings that He has waiting just for you because you were working extra hours at the office, ignoring your family just to have one more exotic vacation? This is certainly not God’s plan for you.
Priorities determine what you do and don’t do, where you go and where you don’t go. If you are looking for the full and abundant life, it’s time to set proper priorities. Matthew 6:21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Where do you spend your time and energy? Where do you spend your money? This is where your priorities are focused.
Priorities are established over time through consistent effort. If you want to be physically fit, it takes more than one trip to the gym. If you want to become a doctor or a lawyer, it takes more than one class. Your continued, consistent efforts will show where your priorities lie. And there are many great things in this life to focus on…but God says that we are to keep Him first above all others.
Are you looking for His favor? For supernatural intervention? For an anointing that allows you to experience God on a deeper level, to move mountains of impossibility? Then put Him first! When you place God first, you are telling Him that you are ready to serve Him, that you are ready to take on the mantel of His fresh anointing.
The anointing is God’s mark of distinction that separates you, your family, your household, your life, your finances, your physical well-being, your emotional health…from everyone else. You are a child of the King, set apart. Everything that sets you apart from the things of this world comes via the anointing.
Consider what God’s anointing did for Jesse, the father of King David. David was just one of eight kids, left out in the field to tend sheep. He was ignored by his brothers. BUT…when God saw David’s heart and poured out His anointing…he was no longer just one of eight sons. He was set apart, distinguished as the one who would one day become King.
Let’s be clear. David did not accomplish great success in his earthly life because he was talented or charismatic. The world is filled with charismatic people. But God anointed him, and that eventually gave David the power to become ruler over all.
God’s divine anointing gave David the power to say, “You come to me with a spear and a sword. But I come to you in the name of the LORD" (I Samuel 17:45). And he watched the giant fall to the ground with a single stone.
The anointing is an activator. It takes what God has placed inside of you and activates it to accomplish God’s destiny for your life. The anointing activates the power of God in your life, giving you the ability to do the seemingly impossible.
It is the anointing that gives you strength when you are weak, that gives you joy when you should be filled with sorrow. It is the anointing that makes you as bold as a lion and gives you courage when those around you are shrinking in fear.
Under the anointing, no weapon formed against you will prosper. No enemy will be victorious. Every yoke will be destroyed. Every burden will be lifted. Every crooked way will be made straight.
Maybe today you feel like a victim due to circumstances beyond your control. But the awesome power found in God’s anointing can bring you the total victory in an instant. If you’re facing an impossible situation, He is the God of the impossible. When He anoints you, He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Psalm 23:5 (written by David) tells us, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.”
Isaiah 10:27 says, “It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing...”
To fully understand God’s anointing, you need to know what it is NOT. It isn’t a one-time event. It’s not a box to check off along your spiritual walk.
“Yep. Went down to the altar today; felt the anointing.” It’s not a Christian merit badge. Christianity is about relationship, not religion. We are always growing, always seeking more of Him.
It does not get you out of trouble. It’s not a get out of jail free card. Christians have problems. Bad things happen in our lives. Think about David. He still had to face the giant. But God was with him. The anointing doesn’t get you out of trouble. It gets you through trouble. Don’t fall into a case of the “Why Me’s?” You are not being persecuted. Even Jesus had bad days!
Also, the anointing is not optional. You may choose to not be anointed (as you are a freewill agent) but, according to God’s Word, the anointing is not optional. Why? Because everything that God uses, He anoints. Glance through the pages of God’s Word and see how tabernacles and people were anointed for their Kingdom purpose. Everything in the building was anointed when God commanded it…not even the curtains were left out.
Then and now…you cannot get close to God and build a relationship with Him without the anointing. If you want to experience God’s power in your life, you need to be filled with His anointing. There is no substitute.
If you are looking for the power of the anointing in your life, say this prayer:
Heavenly Father, today I am standing upon YourWord. I want to live under Your anointing power.May everything that my enemies have used to try and entangle, ensnare and defeat me be broken in Jesus’ name. Touch my life, Lord. Break the yokes of bondage in my life and set me free. Help me to keep my focus on You, my priorities where they should be…so that I may serve yourKingdom. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!
