What a wonderful reason to get together with friends and family to share a meal and join in sweet fellowship.
Easter is a time that we remember and give praise for the resurrection of Jesus. When He conquered death, hell and the grave, He gave us the power to do the same. As children of the Most High God, we have the power to bring hope, health, and life to a world that is in desperate need of a Savior.
Jesus Christ, the Champion of Calvary gave us the greatest reason for celebration! Think about those three powerful words spoken from the Cross, “It is finished!” Pause for a moment and remember the incredible sacrifice that was made so that we might gather together in grand celebration.
The Gospel, the foundation of our faith, rises or falls on the truth of the resurrection. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, Christianity is a colossal hoax. Our songs and sermons are a waste of time filled with utter nonsense.
Think of the shock on the faces of those who rolled the stone away and found that the tomb was empty! It was the greatest day this earth has ever seen (Luke 24:1-7). Death was defeated. Disease was no longer a threat. With this one act of sacrifice and pure love, we were given the gift of eternal life.
Two thousand years ago, following Passover with His disciples, Jesus of Nazareth was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. While He was praying, “…O My Father if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matthew 26:39)
But Jesus knew from the beginning that He was destined to be the perfect sacrifice so that we might be set free, so that we might be redeemed. Jesus’ fate was decided before He was born of a virgin. And He accepted the will of His Father, taking our sin and shame upon Himself, that we might be free. As His disciples slept in the garden, Jesus knelt in prayer for over an hour, already knowing that Calvary’s Cross was waiting.
Suddenly the torches of 500 roman soldiers flooded the Garden. Five-hundred battle-clad men arrived to arrest one carpenter’s son. He identified Himself immediately, willingly laying down His life. John 10:18 tells us, “No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
Rome could not kill or convict Him. He was innocent. It was His own choice to lay down His life, to make the ultimate sacrifice for you and me. The grave could not hold Him. Satan could not defeat Him. And on the third day He rose again to conquer death, hell and the grave.

Because of His great sacrifice we have the priceless gift of salvation, eternal life and constant, intimate contact with our Lord and Savior. These are reasons for celebration!
The power that was previously only given through a priest in the temple has now been given to you. The power that lives in Christ lives in you. When the curtain split in the temple, it opened the door for you to gain direct access to God. No longer are you forced to ask someone to petition God the Father on your behalf; all you need to do is whisper the Name that is above every other name and angels are sent to flight to move and to work on your behalf for your good and His glory.
Think of the power we have because of Calvary. The power that was previously Christ’s alone is now available to each of us. We have immediate access to the throne room of grace, with the opportunity to ask an unlimited Savior about the things that concern us most.
Have you ever received a diagnosis that you weren’t expecting? Isaiah 53:5 declares that, “By His stripes we are healed.” Good health is a blessing! If you got out of bed today, praise the Lord! If you need healing in your body, know that you have the power through the shed blood of Jesus Christ to call upon His name and be made whole.
Maybe you are needing healing in your relationships. The sacrifice on the Cross and the empty tomb were the ultimate example of forgiveness. The quality of your life and your relationships with people (and with God) can be summed up in one word…FORGIVENESS. It is the key that unlocks the door of hatred and resentment to a restored life of love and joy. Forgiveness will heal the tormented soul.
Forgiveness is a choice, it’s an act of your will. When you choose to be obedient to God’s Word, and forgive those, as Christ has forgiven you, then your healing will become so complete that you will find the peace you are seeking.
As we look to the Cross this Easter, leave your burdens at the feet of Jesus, knowing that your debt was paid. And as you celebrate the empty tomb, do so with the knowledge that you have been set free!
As you look around the table at this year’s Easter celebration, remember the sacrifice that was made to make this day possible. Pray for those who need healing or salvation. Invite someone to church so that they might understand the power that was released through the sacrifice of Jesus. We have been washed whiter than snow in the greatest act of love this world has ever witnessed.
He is all-knowing and all-powerful! The tomb is empty! He sits at the right hand of God the Father, and one day we will join Him in the greatest celebration of them all!
