Balancing The Scales

Matt Hagee

Regardless of what you think this nation needs, or how you feel about the world in which we live, as a society we are simply hacking at the branches instead of striking at the root of the problems that are consuming us in rapid fashion. We are a nation in need of the truth.

But, what is the truth? First is the knowledge of truth. Then…what do you do with the truth once you find it? Oftentimes, when we find out the truth, we feign ignorance. We don’t want the responsibility of living under the truth. We play dumb.

The reality is, it doesn’t matter if you ignore the truth, debate the truth, refuse to apply the truth… No matter what you choose to do with it, the truth does not change. And we are a nation in desperate need of the truth. There are all kinds of arguments raging around the world. We’re arguing about who should be in control, who doesn’t have any control, who’s next to take over control, who’s over-reaching their legal control. We’re talking about who should be defunded, who needs to be refunded, and who’s overfunded.

We argue about who’s essential and who’s non-essential. We argue about what needs to be done and the best way to do it. The reality is that the louder the arguments get, the more we forget how to solve the original problem.

Throughout our history as a nation, we have solved our problems unlike any other region, unlike any other people… because this is not any nation, this is one nation under God. This is the United States of America. It is when we are united that we experience what Psalm 133:1,3 says, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! …for there the LORD commanded the blessing.”

It is in unity that we are blessed. Our blessings do not come from a political party or from a savvy economic scheme. Our blessings do not come from people who decide when and where we can receive them. Our blessings come from God alone.

We must live a balanced life that is filled with the truth as found in God’s Word. Don’t build your life on politically-correct scales. You will quickly find yourself out of balance. Your life will be built on a foundation of lies. Build your life on social scales, and you will be out of balance in a heartbeat. These scales are also built on lies. The only scale that is filled with the truth, measuring your full potential, are the righteous scales found in God’s Word. These scales bring us hope for a bright and successful future in Christ, for an eternity in heaven.

Proverbs 14:34 tells us,“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”

The scales found in God’s Word are filled with hope. They clear the clouds of confusion that the world around us continually thrusts in front of us for daily consumption. These scales are the life-saving foundation of every great life, every great society. If the foundations be destroyed, then what can the righteous do (Psalm 11:3)?

If we as a nation, as a people are going to return to being the righteous Church who is blessed by God…every man, woman, boy and girl must make the decision that we are going to build our life on God’s Word and nothing else. God’s Word is TRUTH! And there is absolutely no substitute for the Church triumphant!

Jesus told His disciples that in the end times, deceptive days would come. Do you see the deception in our society today? Do you watch the news? Is it hard to tell the truth from a lie? We are surrounded on every side by deception. In Matthew 24:4, Jesus tells His disciples…”take heed that no man deceive you.”

How do you not allow a man to deceive you? You put God’s Word above everything else. You devour His Word so that your soul is saturated with the truth. You share this truth with your family so that they are armed against the enemy that comes to devour us with lies that are cleverly disguised. But, if you don’t know the Word, you will not recognize the lie when it is presented to you.

The Bible is very clear cut on walking in truth and righteousness. If you want to succeed in this life, if you want to live eternally, if you want to feel peace in the middle of your storm…seek the truth of God’s Word. Rest in His promises. Walk down the path that He sets in front of you.

God hates lies. The Devil is the father of lies. Do not fall into his trap. He comes to rob, to kill and to destroy. But God, through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ, offers us eternal life. Because of Calvary’s Cross, we have been completely redeemed, set free. Don’t waste this incredible gift by falling into a pit of lies and deception.

The Devil will try to lead you down a path of self-deception. This is a path of pride and arrogance. No good thing will come to you on a trail of misguided steps. The Lord says, “Here is the way…walk in it.” When your steps are ordered of the Lord, your life is filled with hope and peace. No matter what brand of chaos is filling the streets, place your life in His hands, for He does not change. What is true today will be true tomorrow, and it will be true 10,000 years from now.

Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the LORD, I change not...”

The Devil was cast out of heaven, and he prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Do not fall into his trap. Balance the scales of your life. Saturate your soul with the truth found in God’s Word. Pray without ceasing. Find your peace in Him. For there is no other way to live, than in service to our King.
