1 SAMUEL 12:23
Samuel was a prophet and priest of God to the Israelites. When the people saw the Ammonites coming against them, they insisted on having a king of their own.
Samuel was against the idea, but God gave the people their way. Samuel prayed down thunder and rain on the crops of wheat so the people might realize the evil they had done in the eyes of the Lord when they asked for a king. "And all the people said to Samuel, ‘Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.’" (1 Samuel 12:19)
"Then Samuel said to the people, ‘Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. And do not turn aside; for then you would go after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing. For the LORD will not forsake His people, for His great name’s sake, because it has pleased the LORD to make you His people.’" (1 Samuel 12:20-22)
“Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way. Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.” (1 Samuel 12:23-24)
Samuel knew his responsibility, and regardless of his feelings or opinions, he faithfully obeyed. God commands us to pray. Do not neglect it. Prayerlessness is sin.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son and that He bore the punishment for my sins when He died on the Cross. I am a sinner, and I ask You to forgive my sins. I surrender control of my life to You.
Thank You for my salvation and for eternal life. I thank You that I am now a child of God, righteous through the blood of Christ.
In Christ’s Name,
