In God We Trust

Matt Hagee

In 1957, a bill passed declaring that this well-known motto should appear on all U.S. currency as an acknowledgement that we are a nation founded in reverence to God’s divine law. Since that time, these four simple words have been stamped on our currency and in our hearts.

Today, unfortunately, we have lost sight of what this motto truly means. We place our trust in wealth, fame, possessions, security, occupations, and our health. Sometimes, it seems like the only place we find God is printed on our currency. LIKE MANY OF OUR CURRENT LEADERS, WE’VE GROWN TO LOVE GOD’S BLESSINGS MORE THAN WE LOVE GOD HIMSELF.

But what if we took God’s promises at face value and trusted Him completely? What would our lives look like then… if we sought to understand what the words “in God We Trust” truly mean and then applied them to our daily lives?

The God of the Bible is a god that cannot be taken for granted. Many of us count on His promises when it includes rich blessings and great favor, but do we pay attention when His Word talks about what happens when we’re disobedient? Or do we choose to apply only the portions of the Bible that make us feel good?

You simply cannot take God for granted and expect Him to bless you. He cannot be ignored. Period. Hebrews 12:27 tells us that everything that can be shaken will be shaken. It takes about five seconds of newsreel to understand that worldwide we are being shaken to our very core. And, while we scramble to make sense of it all, to make sure we have what we need to fight inflation and try to figure things out on our own… we are left feeling empty and fearful. We have forgotten where to place our trust. And guess who will not be shaken as the world continues to function in a state of utter chaos? God.

God is our true foundation. He knows our end from the beginning. If we follow Him, we have nothing to fear. We can live in perfect peace regardless of the circumstances that surround us, as long as we maintain a Kingdom focus (Isaiah 26:3).

POLITICALLY, our country is shaking. Why? Because instead of putting our trust in the God who created us, we are putting our trust in leaders who make unlimited promises in an effort to gain our vote to further their personal agendas.

FINANCIALLY, our country is shaking because we would rather put our trust in the financial experts on Wall Street than in the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills. All the gold and silver belong to Him.

SOCIALLY, we are shaking because we are following the advice of Hollywood elites, stars who voice their opinion about anything and everything… when we should be following the Bright and Morning Star. Our country is being shaken by a godless and immoral agenda that wants to destroy the very foundation upon which this nation was founded. The socialist agenda that is flooding our country seeks to overthrow three of America’s founding principles: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

For more than 250 years, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness has given this nation an opportunity to become the greatest nation on the face of the earth. And now we are trying to throw it away at a frightening pace. Why? Because we have forgotten to put our trust in God.

Our current economic situation is best described as out-of-control inflation. We have forgotten to put our trust in the God who supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory.

We have an EDUCATION SYSTEM in this country where the parents don’t trust the educators because the public-school educators are trying to indoctrinate our children with things like the Critical Race Theory. The lesson plans for 2022 don’t always focus on reading, writing and arithmetic because we are worried about pandering to political agendas. Instead of believing what our country was founded upon (“in God We Trust”), we are being indoctrinated with a new motto… “Trust the science.” And science has become a god that people are worshipping since the COVID-19 Pandemic began.

You hear people say that the world is becoming more godless, but this is not true. People are just giving themselves to many gods and putting Jehovah God on a shelf for Sunday. They are shoving Him to the side until there’s a problem or they need a blessing. He is one of many gods, not the center of their attention… and God clearly states that we are to have no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3). In times of desperation and chaos, when the world around you seems to be crumbling, who do you put your trust in? Almighty God, or the many gods that the world has to offer?

I recommend Jehovah God. He has never failed. He is the God who provides and guides, on good days and bad. He holds the sun and the moon in the palm of His hand and calls the stars by name. God has never abandoned anyone. And yet, when we were all sinners, He sent His Son to the Cross to redeem us and set us free.

Psalm 20:7 tells us, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.”

Trust God. Do not let the world sway you into believing a false doctrine. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

Wouldn’t you love to know that the path you’re on is taking you to your divine destiny? When you are walking hand-in-hand with God nothing and no one can defeat you, blessings and peace are yours.

Trust determines the quality of every relationship. One of the reasons we don’t see churches on fire to win the lost is because the people attending church don’t trust the God who sent His Son to save them. If we trusted God like we’re supposed to, we would be telling everyone around us the great things He has done for us. We would be sharing our testimonies like it was the greatest story ever told in an all-out effort to share the message that Jesus saves.

How are you going to walk through this life unless you trust in the God who sees your future, who sees the things that you cannot? To walk by faith, you have to follow someone that you trust. So, who are you following?

Some people follow their feelings. Some follow the opinions of others. Some are led by their past experiences. But those who are most successful in this life are following the hand of God. When you see people who are being led by God, you might wonder… How are they being blessed in every aspect of their lives? Why are they being lifted up when others are being turned down? Why is that happening in their life, but not in mine? The reason is simple and yet profound. They have placed their trust in God and are following Him daily.

As a child of the King, you will never know the amazing things that He can do for you until you are willing to make Him the Lord of your life and follow His lead. You will never know the profound blessings that He has in store for you until you stop debating Him, until you stop trying to do things through your own power and start following Him, trusting Him completely.

When you start placing your trust in God, your life will be a thing of absolute beauty.
